YEAR 8 RESIDENTIAL VISIT TO NORMANDY
Every year, the whole of Year 8 spend a week in Normandy. The group stay at the Château du Molay, 14km. to the west of Bayeux and 15 km. from the coast and D-Day landing beaches.

The objectives for the visit are:
- to promote European awareness through “immersion” in another European country - to promote the appreciation of a different country, culture and language - to stimulate and motivate pupils in achieving curricular goals in the National Curriculum subjects through planned and structured excursions in Normandy - to provide a safe, secure and interesting environment for pupils to develop personally and socially.
Example itinerary:
Saturday evening – depart school by coach
Sunday - Channel crossing by ferry or Eurotunnel and coach transfer to Normandy. On the journey to the chateau we make a short stop to visit the historic port of Honfleur.
Monday – Bayeux day – visits to the Bayeux tapestry, Bayeux cathedral and the British military cemetery
Tuesday – visits to Arromanches D-day museum, 360o cinema and gun battery at Longues-sur-Mer.
Wednesday – visits to Normandy Caramels, St Mere Eglise and Caen Memorial museum
Thursday – visits to the market at Molay-Littry, German military cemetery at La Cambe and American military cemetery at Coleville-sur-mer.
Friday – depart the chateau for the journey home.
