This was more enjoyable than the journey to Paris as there was a more relaxed atmosphere and the weather improved greatly. However, I see clouds ahead. This is not good.

SACRÉ-COEUR AND MONTMATRE
|
| |
The church was fantastic and the paintings on the roof where really good. So much detail and care went into it. The art in Montmartre was good. There were lots of different things and it gave me lots of ideas for coursework.
Gemma Hainsworth
The church was beautiful and although it took loads of steps to get to it, it was all worth it. I enjoyed exploring the area and there were some really talented artists! Really inspiring!

I enjoyed exploring the Centre Pompidou because we haven’t really had much time to do much sopping so this gave us the chance to just roam freely and get more souvenirs and the weather was lovely.
Afiya Fenton
I enjoyed this area, as we had free time to shop and get drinks that we really needed because of the heat!
Izzy
I really loved the Centre Pompidou and I had an extremely nice crêpe It was a very nice place and the lovely weather made it even more enjoyable.

The cathedral was really pretty and it was nice to go in. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful until you go back outside to the busy and noisy Paris.
Gemma
I loved how beautiful and calm the cathedral was. I really enjoyed being there and lighting the candles. It was also good to have visited the cathedral on a hot day because the sun was shining and it made it look all the more beautiful.

The Eiffel Tower was wonderful although we were very scared to go to the top. Anyway, we plucked up the courage and did it Had a great time overall!

So we went to the second level to start off with a not high enough for us! We all pulled ourselves together and walked to the lift to take us straight up to the top of the most famous structure in Europe. It was extremely high, but it was worth seeing the views. Somehow it didn’t seem to be high enough for some of us.

INTERACTION WITH THE FRENCH SCHOOL
|
| |
Meeting the French students was brilliant. I was worried it might be awkward but I got on with my partner Julia and her friends straight away! The first day after a late arrival we only had time for a picnic and a quick chat but on the second day we had time to converse with several students in both French and English. It gave me a chance to use and improve my conversational French skills as well as making lots of new friends! I really enjoyed meeting them and hope to stay in touch!
Roisin McCallion
Admittedly, I was apprehensive before meeting our French friends, but after having overcome the initial shock, we were able to communicate confidently and so meet a variety of people who I am sure I will keep in contact with for a long time.

Sometimes in a classroom, in a language lesson, you think: “I’ve got so much to learn to be able to speak properly and at the moment I’ve barely scratched the surface”. But going to the school made me realise and appreciate how much I know already, because I was able to hold a conversation, even when I didn’t understand every word. My pen pal is really nice and speaks good English which motivates me to continue trying in French when I sometimes feel I am getting nowhere.

After the excitement had been building up the whole day I was practically screaming with excitement when we arrived at school, and by the looks on everyone else’s faces I could tell they felt the same. However, it was just our luck that there was quite a serious problem with the coach which meant we were unable to travel. After about 3 hours in the dining room and all the bags had come off one coach and been reloaded onto the other we eventually set off. Being delayed by 3 hours on the way down meant that we were behind schedule, and therefore only had time for 2 quick stops before we arrived at the school. One long journey, but one that was definitely worth it!

Coach journey: nightmare! Never had so little sleep in my life! Good book though, always helps. Just saying France offers the strangest flavours of sandwiches!
